Port Sorell, our last days in Tassie

7th - 11th April 2017

We spent our last few days in the lovely coastal town of Port Sorell, staying at the Lions CP.  The park was practically empty so we had the pick of the spots sheltered behind a sand dune.

Even managed to do some fishing, only little tiddlers but very relaxing.

Each night we had the pademelons visit us.  This little one liked carrots and broccoli!

We treated ourselves to a delicious lunch at the local Ghost Rock Winery.  It was a stunning day overlooking the vines down to Bass Strait.  The wine was brilliant and the Ghost Rock Platter was filled with local Tassie produce.  A fitting way to end our trip to Tasmania.

Mole Creek and Sheffield

5th - 6th April 2017

Leaving Launceston for the last time we headed west into the mountains and found a lovely little caravan park at Mole Creek. We had a good site backing onto a mountain stream.  We did a walk to the Alum Cliffs lookout.  Why is it that all lookouts or waterfalls are either up or down mountains?? Good exercise Ferg says, ugh!

We also had a day out in Sheffield, the town of murals.  Pretty town, interesting characters such as the fellow sitting in the main street with his llama.

Our last visit to Launceston

3rd - 4th April 2017

Back to Launceston for another game of bowls at the Launceston BC, nice little club right in the middle of the city.  We stayed at Old Mac's Farm again for two nights.  Visited the Tamar Wetlands for a lovely 3km walk along boardwalks through the marshes out to an island in the river.  Saw lots of swans and waterbirds and even a tiger snake sunning itself.

31st March 2017

Back to Launceston today for a game of bowls at the West Launceston Bowls Club.  It was nice to get on the green again.  Stayed overnight at Old Mac's Farm.

1st - 2nd April 2017

Drove up the east coast of the Tamar River to Low Head which is situated at the mouth of the river.  Stayed at the local caravan park for two nights and did a bit of siteseeing in the area.  We visited the Low Head Lighthouse and the old pilot station.  It was very windy and cold so we ended up spending much of the time tucked up in the van.

Bridport - Northern coast of Tassie

29th - 30th March 2017

We headed north from Pyengana up through Scottsdale to the northern coastal town of Bridport.  We booked into the local caravan park which stretched for 2km along the foreshore.  The unpowered site we selected had a magnificent view of the water and we had the place to ourselves.

We got the fishing rods out and caught a few King George Whiting. Unfortunately not quite legal size but we had fun catching them.  Would highly recommend visiting Bridport, such a pretty town.

Pyengana

27th - 28th March 2017

Reluctantly we dragged ourselves away from Binalong Bay and headed inland to the small village of Pyengana.   Free camped at the local recreation ground for a couple of nights.

We took a drive up into the mountains behind Pyengana to visit St Columba Falls.  It was a beautiful fern covered walk down to the base of the falls.

We called into the Pyengana Cheese factory on the way back and enjoyed a lovely coffee, fresh scones and homemade jam. Yummy!

Bay of Fires

24th March 2017

Travelling north from Bicheno we had one night at the free camp, Diana's Basin.  It was a nice spot right on the water. We tried our luck at fishing but no bites.

25th - 26th March 2017

Hooray, finally made it to Binalong Bay, Bay of Fires.  We got a magic campsite at Swimcart Beach, any closer to the beach we would have been in the water!

We had a lovely couple of days here fishing, the weather was perfect.  It would have to be one of the highlights of our trip around Tassie.

Bicheno

21st - 23rd March 2017

As the weather was going to be ordinary for the next few days we treated ourselves to a powered site in the East Bicheno Caravan Park.  Nice little town with an interesting rocky coastline. Ferg did the walk up the mountain to the lookout.

We visited Nature World and got up close to a Tassie Devil and lots of other animals.  We had a guide walking around with us explaining all the interesting facts about each animal. A lot of the native animals had been rescued from the roadside. They are part of the breeding program for the endangered devil.
