Alice Springs

27th August - 1st September 2016

We left our WWII camp in early heading for Alice Springs, calling into Aileron on the way.  There are a couple of very large statues in the town done by a local artist which were very interesting.

Arriving into Alice, we booked into the G'day Mate Caravan Park, then off to the shops to stock up.  Next day we were off site seeing to the West MacDonnell Ranges.  We drove out to Hermannsburg then off road out to Palm Valley. After some major 4 wheel driving we arrived into this magical valley.

We did the 2km loop walk around the escarpment overlooking the valley.  Wow, it was stunning, lots of wildflowers and magnificent views of the ranges.

Over the next few days we caught up with our Tassie mates going out to dinner and the movies. Wednesday we had the car serviced early then off for the afternoon to do some more site seeing in the West MacDonnells.  This time we visited Simpsons Gap, Ellery Creek Waterhole and Serpentine Gorge.

It was late afternoon by the time we headed for home and the sun was setting on the mountain ranges.  The colours were amazing.

Our last day out in the ranges we visited Standley Chasm.  Bill and June joined us for the trip and we had a picnic lunch after visiting the chasm.

We had a lovely evening on our last night, going out to dinner at Hanuman Thai restaurant with all the gang. Off to Uluru and Kings Canyon in the morning.
