Strahan and the Gordon River Cruise

28 February 2017

Another magical day, perfect for cruising Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River.  We boarded  the World Heritage Cruise boat at 8.30am and headed out to Hells Gate, the entrance of the harbour.  The water was so calm, very unusual for this area, we were very lucky to pick the right day.

Leaving Strahan
Hells Gate
Moving back up the harbour we passed some large salmon nets, where they showed the feeding process with a big hose spewing out fish pellets.

Further up the harbour we docked at Sarah Island, the site of the Macquarie Harbour Penal Settlement 1822-33.  We were able to walk around the island visiting the remains of the settlement buildings. The water was like glass and the reflections were magic.

Back on the boat we enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch as we cruised up the Gordon River.  Again the reflections along the river were stunning.

What a great day out, we cruised back into Strahan at 3pm.  We are truly blessed to have experienced such magnificent untouched wilderness. A highlight of our Tassie trip!
